Both of them lost their final round game against N.R. Visakh and Navalgund Niranjan respectively. He scored 8/9 points with fabulous unbeaten 7 wins and 2 draws. The tournament was inaugurated by Mr.V.S.Sivakumar, Minister for Transport and Devaswom, Kerala and the prizes were distributed by Ms.Vanajam, Principal, Government Music College, Trivandrum. First-of-its-kind Inter-City Online Chess Match

On 16th October 2010, in a first-of-its-kind inter-city online chess match, the top Rated players from Chennai and Dallas (USA ) are going to have a head to head. Both the teams comprise of chess champions who are also university students. They will play against each other online on premium online portal Internet Chess Club (www.chessclub.com). Not only they can play on the vitual chess board but also view the nail biting tension and the other expressions on the faces of their opponents.

The match will use the "Teler Presence" Video conferencing facility with the help of CISCO networks is being setup to enable this real time effect. The match will take place in the "BUSYBEE" Tele Presence room at HCL systems premises at Arcot Road, Vadapalani, Chennai. Similarly the Dallas team will Teleprsence facility at the other side of the globe.

The six member Chennai Team is headed by India's latest Grandmaster & National Champion B Adhiban. The other members of the team include International Master (IM) S P Sethuraman (World U-16 champion), IM Shyam Sundar (Asian junior champion & GM norm holder ), IM Vishnu Prasanna (GM norm holder ), IM & GM norm P Karthikeyan, International Master elect & GM norm holder Arun Karthik, FIDE Trainer K Visweswaran (Coach).

The University of Dallas also fields a strong team comprising of two GMs & IMs ( GM Alejandro Ramirez 2574, GM Cristian Chirila 2504, IM Marko Zivanic 2489, IM Julio Sadorra 2463, Coach: IM Rade Milovanovic).

The chennai team met earlier today at HCL premises to check test connectivity and get a feel of the technology apart from chalking out the match strategy. The match will be played on four boards with two reserves. There will be two games with colours reversed in each. The games will be rapid nature with 20 minutes per player with 5 second addition for every move played.

There will also be two International Referees at either end to monitor the proper conduct of match.

Chennai and Dallas have a time difference of 10.5 hours the match will take place at 8pm IST which is 930 AM at Dallas, USA.

This match discussion began with the initiative of the director of University of Texas in Dallas (UTD) Mr James Stallings whom coach Visweswaran met on his visit to USA earlier this year. Here in chennai, the Chennai District Chess Association headed by its President Mr Venkat Kumar is coordinating the arrangements for the match.

This will also be the first time such a hi-tech match is played in India and across continents. Chennai being a strong founding pillar of organised chess in India and the home of the World Chess champion hopes such pioneer initiatives will take promote the game further in this new age.

Anand's Advice to All Chess Playing Children and their Parents and Coaches
I think Children should be allowed to enjoy the game. Parents and Coaches can provide the ideal environment for a child to play Chess. Titles and Awards is a nice incentive but should not be the only one. I get parents had children asking me for 10 tips to become Viswanathan Anand. I think there is only one. Enjoy the game without any pressures and learn the game through curiosity and interest. The results, whatever they are, will satisfy you. Even at the highest levels, chess has to be played with passion otherwise you pay for it dearly. This passion only comes when i play happily.
